Mumbai Indians Shine with Youthful Energy in IPL Victory

In a light-hearted take following Mumbai Indians’ impressive win over Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, former Indian captain Kris Srikkanth praised the team’s decision to focus on younger players. During his latest episode of the Cheeky Cheeka podcast, Srikkanth jokingly expressed relief that seasoned players Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur were not part of the game. “Thank goodness they sent both Shardul and Deepak to the sidelines,” he remarked with his signature humor.

Srikkanth highlighted that the Mumbai team might now be telling the two veterans to “just take a seat in the shed and stay there,” emphasizing the positive impact of fresh talent in their recent performance.

Young Bowlers Make Their Mark

The spotlight turned to Mumbai’s uncapped bowlers, who made a notable difference with their disciplined approach. Srikkanth praised Krish Bhagat and Ashwani Kumar for their solid bowling, commending their ability to stick to consistent lengths under pressure. “Look at the lengths they bowled, it was like Test match discipline,” he said, recognizing how these young players rose to the occasion.

Ashwani, in his first match of the season, delivered outstanding figures of 4 for 24, while Mitchell Santner contributed with two crucial wickets, playing a significant role in dismantling Gujarat’s batting lineup.

Tilak Varma’s Century Leads the Charge

Earlier in the match, a spectacular century from Tilak Varma set the stage for Mumbai’s commanding win. He scored an impressive 101 runs off just 45 balls, helping his team post a strong total of 199 for 5.

Gujarat Titans struggled in response, failing to find any rhythm after Jasprit Bumrah’s first-ball wicket of Sai Sudharsan. This early setback triggered a batting collapse, leading to the hosts being bowled out for only 100 runs in 15.5 overs.

Srikkanth also pointed out the vulnerabilities in Gujarat’s middle order, noting its ongoing inconsistency, which raises concerns for the team.

This 99-run victory marked a much-needed turnaround for Mumbai Indians, ending a four-match losing streak and moving them up to seventh place in the standings, showcasing the impact of youth and a robust bowling attack.
