Opposition Stands Firm Against Delimitation Bill While Supporting Women’s Reservation

In a recent statement, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge confirmed that the Opposition is united in supporting the women’s reservation Bill, but they are firmly against the delimitation Bill. Speaking at an Opposition meeting, Kharge emphasized, “We stand for women’s reservation. However, they are playing tricks with delimitation. All Opposition parties have agreed: we oppose this Bill. We are not against women’s reservation, but we have concerns about the unclear census data and categorically oppose the delimitation Bill.”

Kharge indicated that the Opposition plans to vote against the delimitation Bill when it comes to the floor.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh weighed in as well, expressing confidence that the BJP will struggle in upcoming elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. He described the delimitation commission as a tool for the BJP to secure a majority. Ramesh stated, “We had requested that women’s reservation be implemented in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but our call was ignored. Now, in the middle of the election cycle, they are raising these three bills. They have unfairly tied delimitation to women’s reservation. We demand that one-third of seats be reserved for women based on the current Lok Sabha strength.”

The political landscape remains tense as these significant decisions unfold.
