Ceasefire Talks in Islamabad: Tensions Rise Amid Fragile Peace

Islamabad is on high alert as key talks between the United States and Iran struggle to stay on track. On April 10, 2026, the city is heavily guarded, with barricades in place and a public holiday declared to aid diplomatic efforts. Although the situation in Tehran has calmed somewhat, concerns are growing over escalating conflicts in vital areas like Lebanon and the Strait of Hormuz.

The streets of Islamabad are unusually quiet, with major roads blocked off. However, the truce is proving to be more fragile than initially hoped. Just two days into a two-week ceasefire, tensions are already flaring again.

One significant issue is Iran’s new policy on maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, allowing only 15 vessels a day. This move is a response to what they call ongoing Israeli attacks in Lebanon, causing anxiety and rising costs for shipping companies navigating the Persian Gulf.

On the U.S. side, President Donald Trump has criticized this limitation, labeling it “dishonorable” and in violation of previous agreements. His remarks follow a particularly alarming social media post warning of severe repercussions.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s role as a mediator is being questioned by Israel, especially after a controversial statement from a senior Pakistani official. This has added further complexity to the already tense negotiations.

In the streets of Tehran, residents are struggling with mixed emotions. While some express relief at the ceasefire after weeks of conflict, many others fear that this pause might only be temporary, with a larger conflict looming.

Stay tuned as we continue to report on these developing events and their implications for the region.
