Shubman Gill Fined for Slow Over Rate in IPL Match
In a recent IPL 2026 match, Shubman Gill, captain of the Gujarat Titans, faced a fine due to his team’s slow over rate against the Delhi Capitals. The match took place on April 8 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. As this was the first offence of the season for the Titans regarding over-rate rules, Gill has been fined INR 12 lakh.
According to an IPL media advisory, “Gujarat Titans Captain Shubman Gill has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 14 of the TATA Indian Premier League against Delhi Capitals.” The fine falls under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which addresses issues related to the minimum over rate.
Gill is now the second captain this season to receive a fine for this violation. Shreyas Iyer, the skipper of the Punjab Kings, has already been penalized twice for similar offences.
Despite the setback, Gill made a significant contribution with the bat, scoring 70 runs off 45 balls, including four fours and five sixes, leading the Titans to a narrow victory over the Capitals by just one run.
