On Tuesday, an Iranian official made a public appeal for young people in the country to come together and form “human chains” around power plants. This call comes as tensions rise due to imminent strikes threatened by the U.S. government under President Donald Trump.
Alireza Rahimi, who is identified by Iranian state media as the secretary of the supreme council for youth and adolescents, shared this message in a news broadcast. He urged various groups—young people, athletes, artists, students, and professors—to gather for this demonstration.
“Join us at 2 PM today around our national power plants,” he said, emphasizing that these facilities belong to the future of Iran and its youth, regardless of any political opinions.
In the past, Iran has organized similar human-chain protests around its nuclear sites during times of increased tension with Western nations. This tactic echoes a historical practice used by Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein during the Gulf War, when he employed human shields to protect key targets from attacks.
