Jos Buttler’s IPL Return: Gujarat Titans Zero In on Technique and Mindset After T20 World Cup Hurdles

Jos Buttler Eyes Comeback in IPL After Tough T20 World Cup

Jos Buttler has faced challenges in 2026, especially during T20 internationals. In the T20 World Cup, he managed to score only 87 runs across eight innings. So far this year, he has a total of 168 runs in 11 T20 matches, maintaining an average of 15.27 and a strike rate of under 125.

Despite these struggles, Buttler is hopeful about turning things around with the Gujarat Titans in the IPL. He had a strong first season with the team, where he scored 538 runs in 14 matches. This season, he has kicked things off with scores of 38 runs off 33 balls against Punjab Kings and 26 runs off 14 balls against Rajasthan Royals.

In a recent episode of the podcast “For the Love of Cricket,” Buttler shared that taking a break after the T20 World Cup has helped him reset and refocus. He is working on his technique to ensure he’s in the right position when the ball is bowled.

“I’m feeling good after the break. It’s allowed me to put the bat down for a while. I’m concentrating on my setup and making sure I’m ready when the ball is released,” Buttler explained.

He also noted he aims to turn his promising starts into match-winning innings. “I want to build on the good positions I’ve had. It’s important to trust my skills and experience. When you get a start, you want to carry that on and contribute to the team’s victory. It’s nice to feel calm in the middle, and I’m hoping to keep that momentum going,” he added.

Staying Focused on the Present

Buttler highlighted the significance of focusing on the present rather than dwelling on past performances. He aims to avoid any mental barriers concerning specific bowlers or venues.

“Every match starts fresh, and that’s how I look at it. I’m focused on what lies ahead rather than what’s happened before. I try not to worry about past successes or failures,” he said.

He acknowledged that he has faced mental blocks against certain bowlers or at particular grounds but is determined to break that cycle. “I want to stay clear of that mindset and approach each game as a new challenge,” he emphasized.

As the Gujarat Titans head into their match against Delhi Capitals on April 8, they are looking for their first win after losing their opening two games.

With Buttler’s experience and talent, fans are hopeful that he can lead the team to a turnaround in the tournament.
