Russia Urges US to Ditch ‘Ultimatum’ Language – Global Affairs

Moscow: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov urged the United States to move away from threats and focus on dialogue during a recent phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi. This conversation comes after a heated social media post from US President Donald Trump, where he warned of potential strikes on Iran’s infrastructure if the country didn’t reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement provided by Lavrov’s office, he expressed hope that ongoing efforts by various nations to ease tensions around Iran will succeed. He emphasized that this would be possible only if the US steps back from its ultimatum-style communication and opts for negotiations instead.

Both Lavrov and Araghchi highlighted the importance of halting what they called “illegal attacks” on civilian structures. This includes the Bushehr nuclear power plant, where Russian technicians are currently working.
