Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are still on the hunt for their first victory in the IPL 2026 season, and their wait may stretch longer due to unexpected weather conditions. After facing losses against Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad, KKR is now bracing for a match against Punjab Kings, which could also be impacted by rain.
Captained by Ajinkya Rahane, KKR is gearing up to face last year’s finalists, Punjab Kings led by Shreyas Iyer. This matchup is crucial, not just for there are points at stake, but also due to the looming rain forecast.
What’s the Weather Like?
The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings, indicating a high likelihood of rain during game time. The region is expected to witness Kalbaishakhi storms, bringing along thunder, lightning, and hail.
“The area might experience a spell of Kalbaishakhi storms from Sunday through Thursday,” IMD noted, adding that Tuesday and Wednesday are projected to see the heaviest rainfall. Wind speeds could reach 50-60 kmph, which may further complicate the conditions for the match.
Weather services like AccuWeather report a 51% chance of rain around 6 PM IST, right before the toss, raising concerns about delays or a shortened game.
What If the Game is Delayed?
If rain disrupts the match, there’s a limited window to complete it. A minimum of five overs must be played on each side for a result. The cut-off time to commence the match is 10:56 PM IST, with the toss needing to occur by 10:46 PM IST. If there’s any further delay beyond that, no result can be declared.
Should play be impossible, both teams will be awarded one point each.
KKR’s Rain-Related Challenges
Rain has often troubled KKR in the past. Their match against Punjab Kings last season was washed out, resulting in both teams splitting points. They also faced rain interruptions during a game in Bengaluru, which negatively impacted their playoff hope, ultimately finishing eighth in the standings.
With fluctuating performance and unfavorable weather, KKR eagerly anticipates improvement in conditions, hoping to clinch their first win of the season.
