Mumbai Indians Coach Praises Rohit Sharma’s Preparation for IPL 2026
Mumbai Indians’ coach, Mahela Jayawardene, has shared insights into Rohit Sharma’s impressive start to the 2026 IPL season. Despite not playing T20s since last year, Rohit showed no signs of rustiness as he dominated the Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowlers.
Rohit played a brilliant innings of 78 runs off just 38 balls, smashing six sixes and six fours. Now focusing solely on T20, the 38-year-old has emphasized his fitness in preparation for this season.
Ahead of the match against Delhi Capitals, Jayawardene commended Rohit for his dedicated training and fitness goals. The coach noted that Rohit engaged in various practice games and worked hard to reach his desired fitness level.
Jayawardene stated, “Credit goes to him for having a plan and vision. Some players in our training setup helped him get ready. Even without competitive matches, Rohit focused on skill work in the offseason. When he joined us for camp, we discussed our starting strategy and conducted many practice simulations.”
Rohit’s Skill and Experience Shine Through
Jayawardene added that Rohit’s excellent performance is also attributed to muscle memory from his years of playing. He observed that Rohit’s hand speed during training sessions was impressive.
“After years of experience, it’s all about muscle memory—how he approaches the game. Even without matches, I could see he was in good form in the nets. His hand speed was impressive, and his strong start in the first game is promising. It’s been a challenging tournament, but he’s focused, calm, and positively contributing in training, which is fantastic for the team,” said Jayawardene.
After breaking their losing streak in the opening match, Mumbai Indians are hopeful that Rohit will lead them to victory against Delhi Capitals on April 4 in Delhi.
