Iran Issues Threats to US Tech Companies
Iran has announced a warning to several major US technology firms operating in the Middle East, including notable names like Nvidia, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, and Google, among others.
In a recent statement, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard urged employees at these companies to evacuate their facilities and for residents living within a kilometer of these sites to leave the area. This warning follows Iran’s recent attack on AWS data centers, which caused widespread service disruptions.
In response to these threats, tech companies are stepping up security measures in their locations worldwide, including in the United States. HiveWatch, a security firm, reported an increase in requests from businesses with data centers, power plants, and cellphone towers seeking enhanced security protocols. This surge in demand mirrors a trend seen after previous security incidents, such as a shooting at a New York office that housed BlackRock and the NFL, as well as the tragic shooting of a UnitedHealthcare executive earlier this year.
HiveWatch provides a range of services, monitoring video feeds, employee access, online threats, and emergency dispatches. CEO Ryan Schonfeld emphasized the challenges of securing physical locations, noting, “There’s only so much physical security you can add to stop a rocket.”
As the situation unfolds, attention remains focused on both the safety of employees and the broader implications for technology operations in the region.
