Lok Sabha Adjourned Over West Asia Discussion Request
NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha was momentarily suspended on Monday due to a demand from Congress for a conversation about the ongoing crisis in West Asia. The request did not receive a firm commitment from the government. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that significant discussions, including those from Prime Minister Modi, had already taken place in Parliament regarding the matter.
The call for the debate was made after the Question Hour by Congress MP Manish Tewari, who stressed the need to address the implications of the West Asia crisis. Rijiju reassured the members that the government is open to dialogue but noted that statements have already been provided by Modi, along with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, in both Houses of Parliament.
“During times of crisis, we stand united, and politics should be set aside,” he remarked, emphasizing that the government had organized an all-party meeting to discuss the situation. Despite ongoing protests from opposition members, Speaker Om Birla decided to adjourn the session briefly. However, once the House resumed, discussions continued without interruption.
