The Delhi High Court is set to provide interim protection for the personality rights of renowned Malayalam actor Mohanlal. This decision was announced by Justice Jyoti Singh during a recent hearing, where the court also permitted Mohanlal to add new parties as defendants in his ongoing legal case.
This ruling comes after Mohanlal had requested to withdraw his initial plea, which the court approved, allowing him to refile with more detailed information. In the latest proceedings, the court instructed Mohanlal to submit a comprehensive note about the links that allegedly infringe on his rights, aiming to clarify the specific instances of violation.
The court has previously addressed several cases involving the unauthorized use of public figures’ identities. For example, actor Sonakshi Sinha and yoga instructor Ramdev have received similar protections through John Doe orders. Other celebrities benefiting from such legal safeguards include singer Jubin Nautiyal, politician Pawan Kalyan, former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, and actors Kajol, R. Madhavan, and Jr NTR. Even Salman Khan has filed a similar plea.
In addition to these cases, the courts have granted relief to personalities like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Nagarjuna, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and filmmaker Karan Johar. Recently, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary secured protection against misleading AI-generated videos, while podcaster Raj Shamani received a John Doe order, recognizing his influence in the digital content world.
On the work front, Mohanlal has several exciting projects lined up. He will star in Patriot, directed by Mahesh Narayanan, which also features Mammootty and Kunchacko Boban. This political drama is particularly notable as it marks a rare collaboration between Mohanlal and Mammootty, with a theatrical release planned for April 23, 2026. Mohanlal is also involved in an untitled project, L366, by Tharun Moorthy, currently in production, and Drishyam 3, directed by Jeethu Joseph, aiming for a May 21, 2026, release.
Furthermore, Mohanlal is associated with Ram, a project that has been in development since the pandemic and is yet to debut in theaters, alongside other ventures in progress.
