Mayank Yadav’s Journey: From Injuries to Comeback

Mayank Yadav, a promising 23-year-old fast bowler, has faced a challenging couple of years. The young athlete has dealt with several serious injuries that could have discouraged many. However, as IPL 2026 gets closer, Mayank is ready to make his comeback, feeling like a new player after taking better care of himself.

The Lucknow Super Giants bowler faced a significant setback during IPL 2024, followed by a serious back injury that kept him out of IPL 2025. Since then, he has undergone surgery and completed his recovery at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Throughout this tough time, Indian cricket star Jasprit Bumrah has been a guiding light for him.

“When I was in rehab at the NCA, Bumrah bhaiya was also there. I have a great relationship with him. He feels like a mentor to me, especially since he underwent the same surgery and faced a similar path,” Mayank shared during an interview on JioStar’s IPL Today Live.

Learning from a Mentor

Having Bumrah, who understands the challenges of recovery, has been incredibly helpful for Mayank. “Bumrah bhaiya talked to me about his own experiences after surgery, helping me understand what to expect during recovery. Sometimes I felt good, sometimes I didn’t, but he guided me through it. We keep in touch through calls and messages, where he offers his advice,” he added.

A New Approach to Fitness

Overcoming injuries has led Mayank to rethink his fitness routine completely. He admits that he was once careless about looking after his body, often skipping important recovery sessions.

“Everything changed for me after surgery. Before, I would ignore recovery and avoid many crucial aspects of fitness. Now, I pay close attention to recovery, nutrition, and sleep. The more I respect my body, the better it performs on the field,” he explained.

Mayank discovered his fast-bowling potential during IPL training sessions when coaches clocked his speed. His passion for pace bowling was sparked by watching legends like Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn, thanks to his father, who often played videos of these greats for him.

With valuable lessons learned and Bumrah’s encouragement in mind, Mayank Yadav is ready to make a powerful return to the game.
