Google has introduced new AI features for Chrome, including “Gemini in Chrome,” to users in India. These tools, based on the latest Gemini 3.1 model, are designed to help users find and understand information more quickly, reducing the need to switch between multiple tabs. The rollout also includes support for over 50 languages, featuring many Indian languages such as Hindi, Bengali, and Tamil, first available on desktop and iOS.
Charmaine Dsilva, Chrome’s product management director, emphasized that with Gemini integrated into Chrome, users can have a more intuitive, secure, and proactive browsing experience. India, along with Canada and New Zealand, is among the first countries to benefit from this launch following its initial release in the United States last month.
### How “Gemini in Chrome” Works
One of the standout features of Gemini in Chrome is its chat-like browsing assistant, which eliminates the need for tab-switching. Users can click on the “Ask Gemini” icon in the top-right corner, and a side window opens, allowing them to ask questions and get answers without leaving their current page. For instance, users can ask Gemini to summarize long articles or find specific products online.
During testing, we asked Gemini to help us find a case for the Pixel 9 Pro. The assistant provided several options, such as the Caseology Nano Pop, which is well-rated and affordable, as well as the durable Ringke Onyx, known for its military-grade protection.
Afterward, we refined our request for faster delivery options, and Gemini promptly identified products that met our criteria. In an impressive feature, it even shared recommendations tailored to our need for quick delivery and high ratings, significantly easing the search process.
Gemini can also assist with other Google services, allowing tasks like sending emails through Gmail without leaving your current tab. This integration helps make browsing more efficient and user-friendly.
### Multi-Tab Functionality and Photo Editing
Gemini in Chrome enables users to work across multiple tabs, making it simpler to gather and organize information. Additionally, Google has integrated a tool called Nano Banana 2, which allows users to edit images directly within the browser. Users can describe their editing needs in the side panel, and the tool will execute the changes effortlessly.
On the security front, Dsilva reassured users that Gemini has built-in safeguards to protect against common online threats. Enhanced security features are designed to verify sensitive actions before they are executed.
