This morning, fans, media, and industry insiders woke up to surprising news: the release of Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups, originally set for March 19, has been postponed to June 4. This unexpected shift left the team behind Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde, scrambling. They were set to premiere just one day later, on June 5, and reportedly did not receive any prior notice about the clash.
Sources indicate that the Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai team was taken by surprise when they found out through social media posts made by actor Yash. Varun Dhawan, director David Dhawan, and producer Ramesh Taurani were unaware that Toxic would be releasing in the same week, as no communication had been exchanged.
An insider mentioned, “When a film secures a release date, it’s normal practice for other producers to inform them if they plan to compete on the same day. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen this time.” The Hai Jawani team is now considering their options—whether to keep their release date or move it.
When contacted for comment, Ramesh Taurani stated, “We haven’t made any decisions yet.” Another industry source weighed in, highlighting that Toxic had initially claimed the March 19 slot, raising questions about whether proper communication took place prior to the announcement of overlapping dates.
Amidst the confusion, a spokesperson for KVN Productions clarified that they approached Hai Jawani’s team to ensure everything was transparent. According to them, KVN’s owner, Mr. Venkat, reached out to Ramesh Taurani as soon as the release dates overlapped. It was noted that Anil Thadani played a role in facilitating the discussions, ensuring both teams were aware of the potential conflict before any formal announcements were made.
As for the choice of the new release date, it was Thadani who suggested June 4, believing it would be ideal as the IPL season would conclude and tensions in the Middle East would ease. The producers of Toxic agreed with this reasoning and decided to move forward with the new date.
With both films now vying for the audience’s attention, it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold.
