England’s Harry Brook Credits Coach Brendon McCullum for T20 World Cup Success
England’s captain, Harry Brook, shared insight into how head coach Brendon McCullum’s strategy propelled the team into the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026. In a thrilling match at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, England triumphed over Pakistan, chasing down a target of 165 runs with two wickets to spare.
Brook took charge by scoring his first T20 International century in just 50 balls, showcasing his skill even on a pitch that favored spinners. Despite England facing early setbacks, losing three wickets during the powerplay, Brook maintained a strong momentum, encouraging his teammates to stay focused and aggressive.
In a tactical shift, Brook stepped up to bat at number three, replacing Jacob Bethell. This change proved to be effective, as he became the first captain ever to score a century in T20 World Cup history. After the match, he credited McCullum for suggesting the batting order adjustment.
“He came to me earlier today and said we might change things up a bit,” Brook explained during the post-match festivities. “Adapting our strategy is something we’ve talked about throughout the tournament, and it felt great to implement it today. I’m starting to get the hang of batting at number three, and it’s nice to face a lot of balls.”
Brook’s Impressive Achievements
The match saw Brook achieve notable milestones. He is now one of only three England players to score centuries in all three cricket formats, joining the ranks of Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan. His rapid hundred ranks among the second-fastest in T20 World Cup history, matching a record set by Chris Gayle.
Brook entered the game after England’s Philip Salt was dismissed for a golden duck on the very first ball. He formed crucial partnerships with Sam Curran, who scored 45 runs off 28 balls, and Will Jacks, contributing 52 runs off 31 balls, helping steer his team toward victory.
Brook’s powerful innings featured ten fours and four sixes, earning him the Player of the Match title for his outstanding performance.
