IND vs SA, Super 8s | Quinton de Kock: No Chat About T20 World Cup 2024 Final Yet

South Africa Shifts Focus Ahead of Super 8 Clash with India

South Africa’s tough loss in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against India is a subject the team prefers to forget. Ahead of their Super 8 match against India, opener Quinton de Kock shared that the team has chosen to move on from the heartbreak.

“Honestly, after that game, we just let it go. None of us wanted to discuss it. We went home and handled it in our own ways. That’s about it; we haven’t really talked about it since,” De Kock explained.

A FINAL THAT STILL HURTS

It’s easy to see why this defeat continues to sting. South Africa came so close to claiming their first T20 World Cup title in Barbados, needing just 30 runs off the last 30 balls. Heinrich Klaasen was on fire, making huge runs, including 24 off a single over against Axar Patel. It seemed like victory was in reach.

But cricket can be unpredictable. Hardik Pandya took down Klaasen in the 17th over, and India’s bowlers held strong. South Africa fell just short, finishing the chase with a heart-wrenching loss that still resonates.

A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS

The upcoming Super 8 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad marks the first time these two teams face off in a T20 World Cup since that final. South Africa arrives with fresh confidence, having won the World Test Championship final since their defeat, which they feel has changed how they are viewed in cricket.

Preparations suggest the Proteas are ready for a strategic battle, with off-spinner Aiden Markram expected to be vital in targeting India’s top order.

The highly anticipated South Africa vs. India Super 8 match is set to start at 7 PM IST on February 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
