Rajpal Yadav Makes Partial Payment in Cheque Bounce Case
Actor Rajpal Yadav has recently paid Rs. 2.5 crore related to a long-standing cheque bounce case against him, according to his lawyer, Bhaskar Upadhyay. This update comes shortly after the Delhi High Court placed Yadav in judicial custody, which will last at least until Monday, following a hearing on his bail request.
Upadhyay clarified in an interview that the funds from the investment were not overlooked. He mentioned that discussions about a 2012 agreement are ongoing, and Yadav has already contributed Rs. 2.5 crore of the total Rs. 5 crore owed. He also noted, “It’s a family matter regarding who provided the money to Yadav. I will visit him in jail to discuss the next steps.”
Currently, Rajpal Yadav is serving a six-month sentence after the high court dismissed his last-minute appeal. He surrendered to Tihar Jail on February 5.
The case dates back to 2010 when Yadav borrowed money for his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata. Unfortunately, the film did not perform well, leading to a growing financial burden. Over time, multiple complaints regarding bounced cheques have been filed against him.
Earlier this month, the high court instructed Yadav to deposit Rs. 1.35 crore for each of the seven cases pending against him, and ordered that previously submitted amounts be given to the complainant. Although Rs. 75 lakh was deposited in October 2025, there remains a significant balance still outstanding.
With this partial payment now verified, attention turns to the upcoming court hearing, where a decision will be made regarding Yadav’s bail and the overall progression of the case.
