Iran Celebrates Revolution Anniversary Amidst U.S. Tensions

Iran Stands Firm Against Outside Pressure During Revolution Anniversary

PARIS: On Wednesday, Iran’s president made it clear that the country will not compromise under external threats, as the nation celebrated the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic revolution. The festivities, however, were marked by an atmosphere of tension due to potential military actions from the United States.

As the celebrations took place, voices of dissent echoed from the balconies of many homes, with protesters expressing their frustration against the government. This defiance comes despite a heavy crackdown on opposition, which rights groups report has resulted in numerous casualties among the protesters.

US President Donald Trump has not dismissed the possibility of military strikes against Iran, linking his decisions more to the nuclear program negotiations than to the ongoing protests. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, advocating for a firmer stance against Iran, was set to meet with Trump on the same day.

Indirect discussions about Iran’s nuclear program took place between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff in Oman on Friday. However, it remains uncertain when the next round of talks might occur, despite the hopeful tone from Tehran.

Iran’s supreme national security council head, Ali Larijani, also engaged in talks in Oman and Qatar, where he met with various Gulf leaders looking for peaceful resolutions. During a phone conversation, Qatar’s Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Trump focused on international efforts to ease regional tensions and bolster security.

An American naval group, led by an aircraft carrier, continues to operate in Middle Eastern waters, serving as a direct signal to Tehran.

In a speech delivered at Azadi Square in the Iranian capital, President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran would resist any unreasonable demands from the US. He reassured the public that while Iran stands firm against aggression, the nation is still committed to peaceful dialogue with neighboring countries to promote stability in the region.
