Prime Minister Modi to Visit Malaysia

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to travel to Malaysia for a two-day visit on February 7 and 8, following an invitation from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as announced by the External Affairs Ministry on Tuesday.

This will mark Modi’s third trip to Malaysia and his first since India and Malaysia upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024.

During this visit, Modi will engage in talks with Prime Minister Anwar to assess the progress of their relationship and explore new areas for collaboration. He is also expected to meet with members of the Indian community and leaders from Malaysia’s business and industry sectors.

The External Affairs Ministry noted that the India-Malaysia relationship is diverse and continues to grow in key areas. Discussions are likely to include topics such as trade and investment, defence and security, maritime cooperation, as well as advancements in digital and financial technologies. Other areas of focus may include energy, healthcare, education, culture, tourism, and interactions between people.

India and Malaysia share deep historical and cultural bonds, which are further strengthened by a vibrant Indian community in Malaysia, numbering around 2.9 million—making it the third-largest Indian diaspora in the world.
