MAMI Unveils New Logo and Initiatives to Support Independent Cinema
The Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image (MAMI), a prominent institution that has celebrated Indian and global cinema since 1997, introduced its new logo and brand identity today. This marks an exciting new chapter for one of India’s most respected film organizations.
MAMI’s rebranding reflects its dedication to making cinema an art form accessible to everyone. The organization believes in the power of film to unite people and spark meaningful conversations. With its roots firmly planted in Mumbai, MAMI is committed to exploring diverse cinematic voices from India and around the world.
Along with the new branding, MAMI also announced the launch of “MAMI Independent,” an ongoing program aimed at showcasing contemporary independent cinema both from India and internationally. This initiative will host weekly screenings, giving a platform to films that often struggle for visibility in mainstream cinema.
MAMI Independent is a significant move towards enhancing the ecosystem for independent filmmakers. This platform will allow creators to present their works to engaged audiences while encouraging dialogue among filmmakers, film lovers, industry experts, and emerging talent. The goal is to expand the audience for independent films, fostering opportunities for discovery and discussion.
Starting February 25, 2026, Mumbai audiences can enjoy weekly screenings at PVR Lido in Santacruz every Wednesday at 7 p.m. The program will feature a carefully selected lineup of independent feature films, documentaries, shorts, and experimental works from India.
Festival Director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur shared his enthusiasm, stating, “I am thrilled to introduce the new face of MAMI. The updated logo symbolizes our belief that cinema is about people and ideas, and our festival is a community celebration of storytelling.”
MAMI Independent will kick off on February 25, 2026, with further details about the screenings and schedule to be shared through MAMI’s official channels. This initiative underscores MAMI’s commitment to fostering creative expression, supporting independent filmmakers, and deepening the connection between storytellers and audiences.
With its fresh brand identity and the launch of MAMI Independent, MAMI reaffirms its mission to discover new voices and strengthen Mumbai’s position as a vibrant hub for Indian and global cinema.
