Shivam Dube: A Rising Star in Indian Cricket
As India prepared for their opening match against New Zealand, fans couldn’t help but notice the transformation in Shivam Dube. His new, sleek hairstyle was just the surface; the real change was in his physique, looking noticeably leaner.
In the ongoing series, Dube has shown his potential as a powerhouse. Though he didn’t bat much in the early matches, when he did get the chance, like in the third match held in Raipur, he made it count by scoring a quick 36 runs off just 18 balls, helping India secure a win.
During the game in Vizag, however, Dube’s situation was tougher. Coming in with India struggling at 63 for four, he aimed to play a finishing role. He kicked things off with a six off Mitchell Santner, but the pressure mounted when Rinku Singh was dismissed, leaving him without strong partners.
Despite being known for his strength against spin bowling, Dube showcased his skills against pace bowlers too. He reached his fifty in just 15 balls, marking it as one of the fastest by an Indian in T20 internationals. Though India ultimately lost the match after his run-out, his performance remains a positive sign as the T20 World Cup approaches.
Adapting to Challenges
Dube has evolved his game, transforming from a player mainly known for hitting spinners to one who can also take on fast bowlers. In Vizag, he scored effectively against both types of bowlers. His strategy against pacers has improved, contributing to a strike rate over 200.
He recognizes the need for growth: “It’s important for me to keep improving. I know bowlers will change their tactics, and I must adapt accordingly. I’m working on being smarter on the pitch,” Dube shared.
His new mindset is bolstered by support from teammates Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav, who have helped define his role on the team. Dube now sees himself as a crucial part of the middle overs, where he is focused on maintaining a high scoring rate.
Becoming a Versatile Player
Dube has also made strides in his bowling. Over the past few years, he has made significant improvements, showcasing his ability to take wickets while maintaining a solid average. His recent performances have highlighted his value as an all-rounder.
While the match in Vizag may not have ended in victory for India, Dube’s development as a reliable player bodes well for the team. As they gear up for the T20 World Cup, his all-round capabilities are sure to come in handy, making him a player to watch closely in the upcoming challenges.
