UP Warriorz Faces Setback as Star Batter Phoebe Litchfield is Ruled Out
The UP Warriorz’s campaign in WPL 2026 has hit a significant snag with the news that their star batter, Phoebe Litchfield, will not return for the remainder of the season due to a quad injury. The talented Australian left-hander had been shining for the team, scoring 243 runs in just six matches, and was one of the top players in the tournament before her injury.
Litchfield was third on the Orange Cap leaderboard, boasting an impressive strike rate over 150 and two half-centuries. Her absence is a big blow, especially as the team strives to qualify for the playoffs.
To fill her shoes, the franchise has signed England’s seasoned wicketkeeper-batter, Amy Jones, as Litchfield’s replacement. With over 125 T20 International matches under her belt, Jones brings invaluable experience to the team. She joined the Warriorz at a base price of Rs 50 lakh and will be crucial in supporting the team’s playoff ambitions.
Currently sitting at the bottom of the points table with only four points from six games, the UP Warriorz need to win all their remaining matches and improve their net run rate to keep their playoff hopes alive—a challenging task, especially without Litchfield’s powerful batting.
Who is Amy Jones?
Amy Jones has established herself as one of England’s top wicketkeeper-batters since making her international debut in 2013. Known for her reliability both as a batswoman and behind the stumps, Jones has more than 2,500 ODI runs and has crossed the 1,500-run mark in T20Is, becoming the seventh English woman to achieve this.
Her standout performances include several half-centuries and two ODI centuries, which she notably scored in quick succession during a 2025 series against the West Indies. In the 2025 Women’s World Cup, she made a match-winning contribution of 86 runs against New Zealand, earning her the Player of the Match award.
Behind the stumps, Jones has proven to be a dependable presence, contributing numerous catches and stumpings. She has even captained the England team in the absence of senior players, showcasing her leadership skills and experience.
With her adaptability and strength, Amy Jones is not only a key player for her team but also a respected figure in the world of women’s cricket.
