Kioxia Introduces New UFS 4.1 Memory Devices for High-Capacity Needs

Kioxia Corporation, a prominent name in memory solutions, has recently announced the launch of its new Universal Flash Storage (UFS) Ver. 4.1 embedded memory devices. The announcement was made on January 27, and these devices use advanced 4-bit-per-cell, quadruple-level cell (QLC) technology, ideal for applications needing high capacity and fast reading speeds. These new devices are built on Kioxia’s innovative 8th-generation BiCS FLASH 3D technology.

The QLC UFS technology offers greater storage density compared to the traditional triple-level cell (TLC) UFS. This makes it perfect for mobile devices that require larger storage options. Thanks to improvements in controller technology and error correction methods, the QLC technology delivers strong performance while maximizing storage efficiency.

The new Kioxia devices show significant performance improvements. They increase sequential write speeds by 25%, random read speeds by 90%, and random write speeds by 95% when compared to the earlier UFS 4.0 version. The Write Amplification Factor (WAF) also sees an enhancement of up to 3.5 times when the WriteBooster feature is turned off, marking a notable advancement in performance.

These new UFS 4.1 devices are particularly suited for smartphones and tablets, but they also meet the growing demands of other technologies such as PCs, networking systems, AR/VR platforms, IoT devices, and AI applications. They come in capacities of 512 gigabytes (GB) and 1 terabyte (TB), combining Kioxia’s leading-edge BiCS FLASH™ 3D memory with an integrated controller in a compact JEDEC-standard package.

Key features of the new devices include:

  • Compliance with the UFS 4.1 specification, which is backwards-compatible with UFS 4.0 and UFS 3.1.
  • Advanced 8th generation Kioxia BiCS FLASH 3D memory technology.
  • WriteBooster provides significantly faster write speeds.
  • Smaller size compared to previous QLC UFS, shrinking from 11×13 mm to 9×13 mm.

This development marks an important step forward for Kioxia in the memory solutions market, addressing the need for high-capacity, efficient storage in an increasingly digital world.
