The 77th Republic Day parade took place on Monday along the famous Red Road in Kolkata, showcasing the strength and commitment of the armed forces in protecting the nation’s freedom.
West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose honored the occasion by taking the salute as various groups marched, including frontline infantry and artillery units from the Indian Army, as well as representatives from the Indian Navy and Air Force. The event displayed a strong sense of teamwork, pride, and dedication among the military personnel.
Among the attendees were Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Speaker of the Assembly Biman Banerjee, and several state ministers, as hundreds of spectators from all ages gathered to enjoy the spectacular parade.
The Kolkata Republic Day parade is known to be the second-largest display of India’s military capabilities after the one in the capital. It highlighted the Indian Army’s readiness to tackle current and future challenges.
The parade kicked off with Chetak helicopters from the Air Force showering rose petals over the audience as they flew overhead.
Brigadier Ajay Kumar Das, who is the deputy general officer commanding of the Bengal sub-area and the commander at the Kolkata military station, led the march.
One of the standout features of this year’s event was the participation of the newly formed 6th Bhairav Battalion, which represents the Indian Army’s shift towards a more agile and tech-savvy fighting force.
