Rexburg Man Detained After Armed Threat at Hotel
REXBURG — A man was taken into custody for a mental health evaluation following a report of a potential armed threat at the Hampton Inn on Wednesday morning.
Police received a call shortly after 7 a.m. about a man in a hotel room who was reportedly making threats to shoot people. Officers from the Rexburg Police Department, along with deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, quickly responded to the scene.
To ensure guest safety, law enforcement evacuated nearby rooms as a precaution. Once the area was secure, officers reached out to the man, who was alone in his room. He was safely detained without any weapons being found. It became clear that he was undergoing a serious mental health crisis, and he was then transported to a hospital for evaluation.
The Rexburg Police Department expressed gratitude to other hotel guests for their cooperation during the incident, emphasizing that their help was essential in making the situation safe for everyone involved.
