Protests Escalate in Tehran as Armed Clashes Erupt

In a significant turn of events, armed protesters faced off against security forces in Tehranpars, a neighborhood in Iran’s capital, on Friday. This clash came amid ongoing anti-regime protests that have been active for two weeks, intensifying the country’s existing unrest.

Cellphone footage shared by Iranian TV captured the sound of gunfire echoing through the streets. Many individuals could be seen fleeing, while shouts of “Death to Khamenei!” and “We are all together!” rang out from the crowd, reflecting their frustrations and demands for change.

Casualties and Arrests

As the demonstrations entered their 14th day on Saturday, reports indicated that at least 65 people, including children, had lost their lives, and over 2,300 individuals had been arrested, according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran. In a move to suppress the protests, authorities imposed a widespread internet blackout, isolating the country from international communications.

Global Reactions and Support for Protesters

In response to the ongoing violence, former U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that the U.S. would take action if Iran escalates its crackdown on demonstrators. He stated, “Iran’s in big trouble,” emphasizing that the situation is being closely monitored.

During the protests, which have now spread to 190 cities, dissident politician Maryam Rajavi praised the youth for their bravery and dedication to challenging the regime. She noted, “They have shown their determination to triumph over the regime.”

As tensions continue, several airlines, including Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, have suspended flights to Iran, further complicating the situation.

These events highlight a critical moment in Iran, as the nation grapples with internal strife and increasing calls for change.
