Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, the top two players in men’s tennis, have expressed interest in teaming up for doubles play. This announcement comes just one week before their exhibition match in South Korea, serving as a warm-up event ahead of the Australian Open.
During a press event in Incheon, Sinner shared his excitement about the potential partnership. “I think it would be fun to share the court together, but our singles commitments make it challenging,” he noted. The intense singles schedule makes it tough for players to compete in both formats, especially if they go far in singles matches.
Sinner hinted that the duo could find a time to play together soon, suggesting, “We might talk about this later this year or next year.” Alcaraz chimed in, mentioning that he had thought about the idea, jokingly stating, “At least once would be fun; I’m thinking I’ll handle the forehand, and he’ll take care of the backhand.”
The two will meet on Saturday in their only match before the Australian Open kicks off on January 18. This exhibition is significant for both players. Alcaraz, who pulled out of the Shanghai Masters due to physical issues, sees this match as a perfect opportunity to prepare for the upcoming season. He shared, “Coming here for a couple of days to get ready is a great idea. I’m really happy to be doing this event with Jannik.”
In 2025, Alcaraz and Sinner were often at the center of the tennis spotlight, facing off in all four Grand Slam finals. While Alcaraz won titles at the French Open and the US Open, Sinner took home trophies from the Australian Open and Wimbledon. However, Sinner emphasized their desire to carve out their own path in tennis, saying, “We want to make our own story.”
Reflecting on their accomplishments, Sinner noted, “We need to see how long we can maintain this level,” especially after winning six titles, despite facing a three-month absence due to a doping suspension. He concluded, “What the big three achieved is something we don’t want to compare ourselves to. We are just focused on being ourselves.”
