India Aims to Boost Tourism from Vietnam with New Initiatives

Published on January 1, 2026

The Indian Embassy in Vietnam recently hosted a tourism workshop in Hanoi on December 30, 2025, aimed at enhancing tourism collaboration between India and Vietnam. This effort is part of India’s strategy to attract more Indian tourists to Vietnam, a country that has become increasingly popular among Indian travelers. The workshop allowed Indian and Vietnamese tourism partners to exchange ideas and explore ways to increase tourist flows between the two nations.

Vietnam’s Growing Attraction for Indian Tourists

Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, Tshering W. Sherpa, highlighted the significance of building stronger connections between the travel industries of both countries. He praised Vietnamese travel companies as essential links in promoting tourism between India and Vietnam. Ambassador Sherpa expressed his aim to discover innovative ways to boost tourism and draw more visitors from India.

Vietnam has seen a remarkable increase in Indian visitors, welcoming around 507,000 in 2024. So far, 2025 has shown even more promise, with approximately 656,000 Indian tourists arriving in the first 11 months. These numbers indicate a rising interest among Indian travelers in Vietnam’s varied attractions, from its stunning scenery to its rich cultural heritage.

Key Drivers of Tourism Growth

Vietnam’s expanding tourism sector appeals broadly to Indian tourists. The country is recognized for both its traditional attractions and unique experiences. Growing interest in wedding tourism, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions), adventure travel, and spiritual tourism are especially noteworthy trends among Indian visitors.

Investment in tourism infrastructure has also played a vital role in making Vietnam more attractive. Indian-friendly amenities, like a growing number of Indian restaurants in cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Ha Long, and Khanh Hoa, cater specifically to Indian tourists. These dining options serve authentic Indian cuisine, which enhances the welcoming atmosphere for visitors from India.

Joint Efforts to Strengthen Tourism Links

The recent tourism workshop reflects a broader strategy to strengthen tourism ties between India and Vietnam. Officials and travel professionals discussed potential collaborations including joint marketing campaigns, exchange programs, and bespoke tourist packages tailored to the needs of Indian travelers.

Vietnam’s rich cultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes present a compelling case for promoting the country as a must-visit destination for Indian tourists. Attractions such as Ha Long Bay, the historic town of Hoi An, and the vibrant cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City offer visitors a mix of history, modernity, and natural beauty.

Indian travelers also find spiritual sites like the Cao Dai Temple in Tay Ninh particularly appealing, which resonate with India’s own cultural and spiritual traditions. Additionally, Vietnam’s rising status as a venue for MICE events aligns well with India’s increasing demand for international conference locations.

Looking Ahead: Enhanced Cooperation in Tourism

Ambassador Sherpa’s call for stronger cooperation between Indian and Vietnamese travel companies indicates a progressive mindset towards tourism development. As Vietnam continues to enhance its infrastructure and appeal to international visitors, India remains a vital partner in this expansion.

The strengthening of tourism links could benefit both countries significantly, driving economic growth and fostering greater cultural understanding. With India being a leading source market for outbound tourism, Vietnam’s emergence as a popular destination for Indian travelers presents a bright future.

The success of the tourism workshop demonstrates a commitment to deepening the relationship between India and Vietnam, enhancing tourism options, and ensuring both nations remain competitive in the global tourism landscape. As Vietnam’s tourism sector continues to develop, India’s role will be crucial.

A Promising Future for India-Vietnam Tourism

Looking forward, the collaboration between India and Vietnam in tourism holds great potential. With a focus on personalized travel experiences and better connectivity, both countries are well-positioned to strengthen their ties in the tourism sector. As Vietnam enhances its profile as a prime destination for Indian travelers, the outlook for India-Vietnam tourism seems very promising.

The anticipated growth in Indian tourist arrivals will strengthen the cultural and economic connections between the two countries, enriching the travel experiences for all. The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism and Indian stakeholders are likely to continue working together, paving the way for a bright future in India-Vietnam tourism.
