New Year’s Greetings and Rainy Welcome in Mumbai

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared heartfelt New Year wishes with the nation. Through a post on social media, he expressed hopes for a year filled with good health, prosperity, and happiness. He wrote, “Wishing everyone a wonderful 2026! May the year bring success in your endeavors.”

President Droupadi Murmu also joined in the celebrations, sending her New Year greetings to Indians both at home and abroad.

In Mumbai, the New Year arrived with unexpected rain, providing a refreshing change from the hazy weather. Early Thursday, light showers cascaded over various parts of the city, especially in South and Central Mumbai, where it rained heavily for about half an hour. The rain also reached nearby areas like Thane, helping to clear the air as the Air Quality Index (AQI) fell to 116.

This New Year brings renewed hope for approximately 500 officer cadets who were medically discharged from India’s top military training institutes since 1985. These cadets, facing various disabilities from their training, have struggled with rising medical expenses and insufficient monthly payments. Fortunately, changes are underway, but they continue to push for disability pensions and recognition as ex-servicemen, a situation currently being reviewed by the Supreme Court.

As the New Year unfolds, the spirit of optimism and the ongoing struggles of those who served the nation remind us of the diverse narratives that shape our society today.
