Ukrainian President Vows to End War Amid New Attacks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed determination on Saturday to do “whatever it takes” to bring an end to the ongoing conflict with Russia. Ahead of a meeting on Sunday with former President Donald Trump in Florida, Zelenskyy highlighted the need for unified support from the global community.
In a series of messages on X, he stressed, “If the whole world – Europe and America – stands with us, we can stop Putin. But if any country sides with Russia, the war will persist.” He warned that Russia is unlikely to halt its actions against Ukraine, regardless of any diplomatic agreements.
Zelenskyy plans to discuss a 20-point peace proposal during his meeting with Trump. This declaration follows a new wave of Russian attacks that occurred overnight, which included hundreds of drones and missiles targeting Kyiv. Local officials reported at least one fatality and numerous injuries due to this assault.
In his updates, Zelenskyy described the night’s attack as a clear indication of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intentions. He noted that the Russian military used nearly 500 drones and around 40 missiles, focusing on infrastructure and energy facilities. The situation left some residential buildings damaged, leading to rescue efforts for those trapped within.
Zelenskyy slammed Russia’s lack of genuine interest in peace talks, stating, “While they claim to engage in discussions, their actions tell a different story.” He called for a strong response from the international community, especially if Russia attempts to disrupt the holiday period further.
He emphasized that Ukraine did not initiate this war, noting their support for various ceasefire proposals from Trump and their willingness to compromise. He reiterated that the country’s primary goal is peace and that strong international support is crucial, particularly in terms of weaponry and financial assistance.
As Zelenskyy prepares for his discussion with Trump, the former president has stated he will have the final say on any potential peace deal. “He doesn’t have anything until I approve it,” Trump remarked, signaling his control over the negotiations.
In a further statement, Zelenskyy responded to the latest attacks by reaffirming Ukraine’s commitment to the peace process and the need for a united global effort to stop the conflict. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also noted the continuing violence, emphasizing the necessity for serious dialogue among European leaders regarding peace efforts.
As the situation develops, the world watches closely, hoping for a resolution that will finally bring an end to the suffering in Ukraine.
