Rohit Sharma Takes a Swipe at England’s Ashes Struggles
In a recent speech at a university, Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma made headlines by lightheartedly criticizing the England cricket team after their loss in the Ashes series in Australia. England faced their fourth consecutive defeat in the series when they fell short by 82 runs in the third Test held in Adelaide, leading Australia to a dominant 3-0 lead in the five-match series. This victory secured the Ashes title for Australia for the fourth consecutive time since reclaiming it in the 2017-18 season.
As fans and cricket experts expressed their disappointment in England’s performance, Rohit didn’t hold back. While addressing graduates, he recalled some of his career’s most unforgettable moments, including India’s stunning win at the Gabba in 2021.
“We managed to win a Test match in Australia in 2021 at the Gabba, thanks to an incredible innings from Rishabh Pant. It felt impossible at one point since we had key players injured or unavailable,” he shared in a video on YouTube.
Rohit reminisced about the challenges they faced during that match, particularly noting Australia’s captain at the time, Tim Paine, and his comments leading up to the game that motivated the Indian team.
Reflecting on the complexity of winning in Australia, he quipped, “You can ask England how tough it is.” He elaborated on how challenging Test cricket can be, especially in Australia, emphasizing the significance of India’s achievement during that series.
With England’s disappointing loss in Adelaide, their struggle Down Under has continued. Their last victory in Australia was back in 2011 when they won the Ashes under Andrew Strauss’ leadership. Since then, they’ve played 18 Test matches against Australia, losing 16 and drawing two due to rain.
