Seven Men Detained Over Violence Threat Released in Australia

Sydney, Australia – Authorities in New South Wales (NSW) have released seven men who had been detained due to suspicions they might be planning a violent act. As of now, they are not facing any charges.

On Thursday, the NSW Police conducted an operation based on information that suggested a potential violent plot. Officers intercepted two vehicles in Sydney and took the seven men into custody.

“Police acted quickly to prevent any plans from progressing. Currently, there is no immediate danger to the community,” stated the NSW Police. They noted that investigations will continue to explore all available evidence.

Deputy Commissioner Dave Hudson explained that the alleged threat was linked to similar ideologies behind a recent shooting incident at Bondi Beach. He defended the police’s decision to act swiftly and emphasized the importance of minimizing risk.

Some reports suggested that the detained men were traveling from Melbourne to Bondi Beach, which had recently been the site of a tragic shooting during a Hanukkah celebration. However, one of the men denied these claims upon their release, stating, “Why would we go there? It was just too far from where we were.”

NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon confirmed that the men, aged 19 to 24 and coming from Victoria, would be monitored even after their release. He mentioned that local law enforcement would collaborate with authorities in Victoria to further investigate.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said it was too early to determine the reasons behind the group’s presence in the area. She praised the quick action of NSW police and insisted that more information is needed about the situation.

One of the detained individuals referred to the incident as a “misunderstanding,” mentioning that they had told police they were in Sydney on holiday.

As investigations continue, police are committed to ensuring community safety while assessing the circumstances surrounding this case.
