India Grapples with Major Air Travel Disruption

Major Crisis Hits India’s Aviation Sector

India is currently facing one of the biggest crises in its aviation history, leaving government officials frustrated and prompting calls for greater accountability.

IndiGo, a budget airline that holds a 65% share of the domestic market and is usually recognized for its punctuality, has canceled thousands of flights in recent days. This disruption is due to a shortage of pilots, which arose from new regulations that limit how many hours pilots can work.

The fallout from this crisis has severely affected air travel across India. New Delhi is particularly annoyed that the situation escalated during a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin, drawing significant media focus away from other important events in the country.

In the political arena, opposition leaders are blaming the government for allowing IndiGo to gain such a dominant position in the market. An aviation expert expressed to The Core that “Indian passengers will not forget this situation easily.”

This ongoing issue raises concerns about the future of air travel in India and highlights the need for steps to ensure better management and oversight in the industry.
