Nandamuri Balakrishna’s eagerly awaited film Akhanda 2 has hit a major snag just hours before its scheduled release, leaving fans and industry insiders astonished. Directed by Boyapati Sreenu, this much-anticipated sequel to the 2021 hit Akhanda was supposed to premiere in theaters worldwide on December 5, 2025, with special paid shows on December 4. However, the release has now been postponed indefinitely, and no new date has been announced.
The troubles began on December 4, when confusion arose regarding theater bookings. Paid premieres were abruptly canceled, and reports of issues overseas caused distributors to cancel screenings at the last minute, leading to disappointment among Balakrishna’s loyal fans.
The production company, 14 Reels Plus, eventually addressed the situation on social media, confirming that Akhanda 2 would not be released as planned due to “unavoidable circumstances.” They expressed their regret and described the moment as painful for the team. The makers assured fans that they are working hard to resolve the issues but emphasized that the new release date would only be determined after sorting out financial challenges.
According to reports, the filmmakers are grappling with legal issues. The Madras High Court recently issued an order preventing Akhanda 2 from being released after Eros International Media Limited filed a complaint. Eros claims it holds a debt of around ₹28 crore against 14 Reels Entertainment Pvt Ltd, tied to the producers. The court has now temporarily barred any theatrical or streaming release of the film.
As it stands, Akhanda 2 remains in a difficult position due to the court’s orders and unresolved financial matters. This unexpected delay comes as a surprise, especially given the strong buzz surrounding the film and Balakrishna’s extensive fanbase. Fans will have to wait a while longer to see the return of their favorite character, hoping that the producers can navigate through these legal and financial hurdles soon.
