Turkish, Qatari, and Egyptian Officials Discuss Israel-Hamas Ceasefire
On Wednesday, officials from Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt gathered in Cairo to talk about the second phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The meeting included the intelligence leaders of Turkey and Egypt, along with Qatar’s prime minister, according to reports.
During the talks, the officials agreed on the importance of improving cooperation with the Civil Military Coordination Center. This collaboration aims to resolve issues that may hinder the ceasefire’s continuation and to prevent any more violations of the agreement, as stated by a Turkish source.
US-Supported Aid Group Ends Mission in Gaza Amid Tensions
Despite ongoing accusations from Hamas and Israel regarding violations of the U.S.-negotiated ceasefire, mediators are striving to initiate the next stage of the agreement. This phase is expected to involve deploying an international stabilization force and creating international governance for Gaza, which also includes disarming Hamas. Additionally, Israel plans to withdraw further from the designated “yellow line” before this international force arrives.
Israel Transfers Remains of Deceased Hostages
Israel recently returned the remains of 15 Palestinians in a swap for the remains of Israeli hostage Dror Or. Dror and his wife, Yonat Or, were killed during an attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023. Reports indicate that the couple heroically saved their children during the attack by helping them escape through a window, though they ultimately did not survive themselves. Their children, Noam and Alma, were taken hostage but were released in a previous exchange.
The remains of two hostages, one Israeli, Ran Gvili, and one Thai national, Sudthisak Rinthalak, are still in Hamas’s possession. The group has stated its commitment to returning them, although no specific timeline has been given.
