All 24 Abducted Schoolgirls Rescued in Nigeria
In a significant development, all 24 schoolgirls who were kidnapped from their school last week in Nigeria’s Kebbi State have been rescued, as confirmed by the country’s president on Tuesday. President Bola Tinubu expressed his relief, stating, “I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for.” He emphasized the need for increased security in vulnerable areas to prevent future incidents of kidnapping.
The girls were taken by armed men equipped with advanced weapons in the early hours of November 17. Although details about the rescue operation remain scarce, the successful recovery of the students has brought a moment of relief to their families and the community.
This incident is part of a worrying trend of mass abductions in Nigeria. Just recently, over 300 students and staff were taken from a Catholic school in north-central Niger State. Reports indicate that some 50 students managed to escape, but 253 students and 12 teachers are still missing.
The Nigerian government continues to face challenges in security, particularly regarding the safety of students and institutions. The surge in attacks on schools has raised urgent questions about the country’s ability to protect its citizens, especially children.
The situation remains tense, and officials are calling for more resources and strategies to improve safety and minimize the risk of such abductions in the future.
