NEW DELHI: Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, spoke to young members of the Indian community in Baku on Wednesday, encouraging them to embrace their dual identity. He emphasized the importance of blending India’s rich traditions with a modern, multicultural viewpoint.
Speaking to over 1,000 Indians gathered in Azerbaijan’s capital, Dr. Pemmasani highlighted the crucial role that the diaspora plays in enhancing India’s global influence and shaping its future. The attendees included professionals from various fields such as oil and gas, hospitality, and commodity trading, along with 380 Indian students studying in the region.
The minister praised the strong unity among the community, which is evident through the formation of multiple cultural and student organizations. Groups like the Indian Azerbaijan Association and the Baku Tamil Sangham help maintain cultural ties even when living far away from home.
Dr. Pemmasani also discussed India’s rapid development in areas like digital technology, renewable energy, space exploration, and economic progress. He recognized the diaspora’s contributions, noting that their successes not only bring pride to India but also create new opportunities through their investments and act as cultural bridges through their children.
He urged the youth to stay connected with India, share their knowledge, and support budding entrepreneurs. Dr. Pemmasani reassured the community of the government’s dedication to the welfare of Indians abroad, stating that India will always welcome them back.
