Watch: Sandesh Jhingan Calls on AIFF for Swift Resolution to ISL Dilemma

Sandesh Jhingan Urges Action to Resolve ISL Crisis

Veteran Indian defender Sandesh Jhingan has expressed his frustration over the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Indian Super League (ISL). He is calling on the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to act quickly and help resolve the growing crisis affecting the league.

Currently, the schedule for India’s premier football competition remains unconfirmed, and several clubs have had to suspend their operations due to financial and administrative issues. In a recent video, Jhingan highlighted that the situation has reached a critical point.

“It’s not just a delay anymore; it’s a standstill that affects fans, coaches, staff, and players alike. Everyone connected to Indian football is feeling the strain,” Jhingan said.

He emphasized that this stalemate is having a significant impact on players and the overall football community. “We have put in so much effort and made many sacrifices. It’s heartbreaking to see our season in jeopardy. The entire football structure, from academies to clubs, is left in limbo. Dreams are on hold, and salaries are uncertain,” he continued.

Jhingan’s comments come at a time when frustrations among fans are rising, especially regarding the AIFF’s management of the situation. The controversy stems from a failed tender process for the ISL’s broadcast, sponsorship, and digital rights. This process, intended to bring stability to the league, did not yield any bids.

The tender was launched on October 16 and was supposed to attract new partnerships after tensions grew between the federation and Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL). With the current Master Rights Agreement set to expire in December 2025, the two parties have been unable to agree, leaving the ISL without clear leadership.

In response to the crisis, the AIFF has approached the Supreme Court for guidance on how to proceed.

This ongoing uncertainty has already impacted clubs. Teams like Kerala Blasters, Odisha FC, and Mohun Bagan Super Giant have temporarily suspended their operations after exiting the Super Cup, citing concerns over the future of Indian football’s schedule and finances.

The lack of communication from the federation has only added to worries about the league’s immediate future. What was once seen as a promising era for Indian football is now mired in administrative challenges, prompting calls from senior players like Jhingan for accountability and prompt action to protect the sport’s integrity.

If a solution isn’t found soon, the future of the ISL—and the livelihoods of many Indian footballers—could be in serious jeopardy.
