Deepti Sharma Shines in World Cup Triumph, Hailed by Meg Lanning
Meg Lanning, the celebrated former captain of Australia, has praised Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma for her outstanding contribution to India’s victory at the Women’s World Cup 2025. Deepti played a crucial role, earning the title of Player of the Tournament thanks to her impressive all-around performance.
Throughout the tournament, Deepti scored 215 runs in seven matches, including three half-centuries. She was also the highest wicket-taker, claiming 22 wickets in nine games at an average of 20.40. Lanning acknowledged Deepti’s ability to influence matches with both bat and ball at various stages.
“She can really change the game with her all-round skills,” Lanning stated during an ICC Review. “What’s impressive is that she can succeed at different points in the innings, which brings great versatility to the Indian team.”
Lanning highlighted the advantage of having a player like Deepti who excels under pressure, declaring her an invaluable part of the Indian squad. “It’s a real asset to have someone who can perform consistently when it matters most,” she noted.
Deepti truly showcased her talent in the final against South Africa, scoring a solid 58 runs and helping India to a strong total of 298/7. With the ball, she shone as well, taking 5 wickets for 39 runs, including key dismissals of top South African batswomen.
Following her remarkable performance in the World Cup, Deepti has moved up in the ICC ODI all-rounder rankings, now holding fourth place with 392 ratings. Her achievements, alongside those of fellow players Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues, earned all three spots in the ICC Team of the Tournament.
The Indian women’s cricket team has certainly made a mark in this World Cup, and Deepti Sharma’s efforts were instrumental in their success.
