U.S. Military Targets Narco-Terror Vessel in Caribbean
The U.S. military has conducted another airstrike against what it describes as a narco-terror vessel in the Caribbean. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reported on Saturday that this action is part of a broader campaign against drug-related militants.
During the strike, three suspected smugglers were killed. Hegseth stated that the operation was executed under President Trump’s orders. He emphasized the vessel’s ties to smuggling activities, revealing that intelligence had identified it as transporting narcotics along a known drug trafficking route.
Hegseth expressed strong resolve against these narco-terrorists, saying, “They are bringing drugs to our shores to poison Americans, and we will not let them succeed.” He stated that the military will pursue these criminals with the same intensity as they did with Al Qaeda, vowing to track and eliminate them.
This incident marks the 15th known U.S. operation against suspected narco-terror groups since September, as part of an ongoing maritime offensive against international drug cartels. Officials report that these operations have resulted in at least 64 casualties linked to these groups.
President Trump has defended the strikes as necessary measures to combat drug trafficking, arguing that cartels have transformed into threats akin to terrorist organizations. He asserts that the U.S. is engaged in an “armed conflict” against them, invoking similar legal authority used after the September 11 attacks.
However, the White House is facing pressure from lawmakers demanding more transparency regarding the strikes. Senators, led by Chuck Schumer, have urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and Hegseth to disclose the legal justifications for these operations. They have requested information on targeted groups and legal opinions regarding the strikes.
The bipartisan Senate Armed Services Committee has also sought clarification on the Pentagon’s legal framework concerning these strikes, including the specific cartels classified as terrorist organizations.
