Political Controversy in Assam
In a recent meeting of the Congress party in Assam’s Sribhumi district, a recitation of two lines from Rabindranath Tagore’s famous poem “Amar Sonar Bangla,” which is also the national anthem of Bangladesh, sparked a political storm. Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has called for police action regarding the incident, while the Congress party has criticized the ruling BJP for what they see as a lack of respect for Bengali culture.
Progress in EU Trade Talks
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced that significant advancements have been made in negotiations with the European Union (EU) aimed at establishing a free trade agreement. India is eager to finalize this agreement, as the EU represents a key market for various Indian exports. India’s exports to the EU reached $82 billion last year, just slightly below the $86.5 billion sent to the US.
Bihar Rallies by BJP Leaders
On Wednesday, prominent BJP leaders Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Yogi Adityanath held rallies across Bihar, where they accused the INDIA coalition of promoting dynastic politics. They reminded voters of the ‘jungle raj’ associated with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Shah criticized RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, alleging he wants his son Tejashwi to become Chief Minister, while Congress’s Sonia Gandhi is allegedly pushing her son Rahul for the Prime Minister position. He emphasized that “both positions are not currently available.”
