NRI Returns from Germany, Shocked by Affordable Grocery Prices in India
A touching moment was shared recently on social media, featuring an NRI who returned from Germany, expressing his astonishment at the low grocery prices in India. The video, which quickly gained popularity on Instagram, shows him walking through a local grocery store alongside his sister.
In the clip, the man’s initial surprise comes when he discovers a box of Tic Tac candies priced at just ₹20. He notes that the same product costs about ₹200 in Germany, revealing a dramatic difference in prices.
“POV: When everything in India is CHEAPER than the country you just came from,” reads one of the captions.
Continuing his journey through the store, he picks up a 2.25-liter bottle of Coke, amazed it costs only ₹95, whereas, in Germany, a similar bottle sells for around ₹250. He points out a bottle of Frooti priced at ₹100 and excitedly shares that some Indian snacks, like thattai, aren’t even available in Europe. His experience culminates at the checkout, where his total bill is just ₹1,273.
Reactions from the Online Community
The video resonated with many Indian expatriates, prompting numerous comments reflecting shared experiences. One viewer commented, “I can totally relate. In Korea, we pay three times as much for Indian groceries.” Another added, “So relatable!” while a third user quipped, “Living in a simulator.”
This amusing account of the price differences highlights how returning to India can sometimes feel like stepping into a different world, especially for those accustomed to living abroad.
