In a recent development concerning Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious film Love & War, there has been a significant shift in production plans. Initially, it appeared that the film’s shooting schedule in Italy had been entirely scrapped. However, sources close to the project have clarified that it was merely revised. The filming will now include around ten days in Mumbai, while the grand climax is set to take place in Italy by December 2025.
Industry insiders reported that Bhansali has uniquely recreated the look and feel of 1970s Italy in Mumbai. The team successfully completed a portion of the filming before Diwali, with the remaining 20-day schedule for the film’s climax lined up for Italy. They are aiming for a release around Eid 2026.
Earlier rumors suggested a total cancellation of the Italy shoot due to logistical challenges. Yet, the new plan indicates that many scenes meant for Italy are already being filmed in Mumbai, with elaborate sets designed to mimic the stunning Italian landscapes of that era. This strategic approach allows for a more manageable shooting schedule while still fulfilling the requirement of authenticity at the location in Italy.
This dual-location strategy is beneficial in multiple ways. Filming in Mumbai reduces potential clashes in schedules and simplifies logistics, especially given the current complexities of international travel. The later segment in Italy promises to enhance the film’s grandeur, aligning with Bhansali’s reputation for opulence.
Major stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal are part of this project, adding to the film’s appeal. The team was initially slated for a 45-day shoot in Italy, but logistical challenges prompted this creative adjustment. By starting filming in Mumbai, they can efficiently align the actors’ schedules before heading to Italy for the final phase.
The shift in location emphasizes Bhansali’s dedication to producing the high-quality, visually stunning films he is known for. The upcoming 20-day shoot in Italy is expected to pave the way for an active post-production phase. With the target set for an Eid 2026 release, anticipation is building, although how closely the film will match its intended visual style remains uncertain. However, with Bhansali at the helm, expectations are understandably high.
