China Unveils the World’s Largest Electric Cargo Ship

China has introduced the world’s largest electric cargo ship, setting a new standard for eco-friendly maritime transport. This impressive vessel, named “Gizuba,” measures 130 meters in length and has the capacity to carry up to 13,000 tons.

Powered by 12 lithium battery units, the ship generates a total of 24,000 kWh of energy. It boasts a maximum range of 500 kilometers and features quick-change battery technology, making it efficient and easy to operate.

The Gizuba is also equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including remote navigation and automatic berthing systems, which are part of an advanced smart control setup. According to Yin Xinping, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, this project signifies a major technological achievement rather than just the creation of a new product.

The ship’s innovation includes successful testing of large batteries, direct current power systems, and remote piloting capabilities. Yin emphasized that the integration of smart control systems, modern engines, and enhanced coastal infrastructure has led to cutting-edge features like ship-to-shore communication and multi-network connectivity.

With a commitment to sustainability, the electric cargo ship is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 2,000 tons annually and save 617 tons of fuel each year. This development marks a crucial step towards achieving a greener shipping industry.
