Zverev Qualifies for ATP Finals After Vienna Open Progress

Alexander Zverev, a two-time champion of the ATP Finals, made headlines on Friday by securing his spot in the prestigious season-ending championship. This achievement follows the withdrawal of Tallon Griekspoor, allowing the 28-year-old German to advance to the semi-finals of the Vienna Open.

Seeded second in Vienna, Zverev has now qualified for the Turin event for the eighth time in nine years. Earlier this year, he reached the final at the Australian Open, solidifying his position in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin.

Zverev joins an impressive line-up that includes Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Novak Djokovic as the first four players to qualify for the tournament, scheduled from November 9-16 at the Pala Alpi Tour arena in Turin. There are still four singles spots available for other competitors.

The Hamburg native has had a remarkable career at the ATP Finals, winning the title in 2018 and 2021. He also reached the semi-finals in both 2019 and 2024. His only absence since 2017 was in 2022 when an ankle injury kept him off the court for most of the season.

Zverev enhanced his impressive record this year by winning his 24th ATP Tour title in Munich. He has consistently secured at least one tour-level trophy in nine of the last ten seasons and has reached finals in Stuttgart, along with semi-finals in ATP Masters 1000 events in Toronto and Cincinnati.

According to the ATP Win/Loss Index, Zverev holds a 17-10 record at the year-end championships, with a strong 9-3 record since the tournament moved to Turin in 2021.

When Zverev won the ATP Finals for the second time in 2021, he became one of the few current players to achieve this feat, sharing this honor with Novak Djokovic.

As the competition heats up, Taylor Fritz currently sits fifth and is in good position to qualify for one of the remaining singles spots in Turin.
