El Paso Residents Unite for Mental Health Awareness
EL PASO, Texas — On a sunny Saturday morning, Ascarate Park came alive with vibrant signs, smiles, and colorful sneakers as over a thousand residents gathered for this year’s NAMIWalks El Paso. The event aimed to promote mental health awareness and was organized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) El Paso, a leading mental health advocacy group in the area.
Participants included community members, local leaders, and various advocacy organizations, all rallying around this year’s theme: “Mental Health for All.”
“It’s truly inspiring to see so many people walking together,” said Isidrio Torres, Executive Director of NAMI El Paso. “For anyone facing challenges, this demonstrates that they are not alone.”
The day began with check-in at the Fiesta Area, followed by an opening ceremony and a walk around the park. Attendees also had the chance to visit resource tents set up by local organizations, providing vital information about mental health services available in the area.
NAMIWalks El Paso is part of a wider national campaign aimed at raising awareness about mental health issues and combating the stigma often associated with these conditions. Funds raised during the event will support NAMI El Paso’s free educational and advocacy initiatives. Organizers are pleased to see a steady increase in attendance over the years and look forward to further expanding their outreach efforts.
