SEOUL: North Korea recently displayed its most formidable intercontinental ballistic missile during a military parade attended by key officials from Russia and China, according to the country’s state media.
This event was part of celebrations marking 80 years of the ruling Workers’ Party. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un appears to have gained confidence from the ongoing war in Ukraine, receiving significant backing from Russia after sending troops to support Moscow.
Dmitry Medvedev, who serves as the deputy head of Russia’s Security Council and is a close ally of President Vladimir Putin, joined Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Vietnam’s leader To Lam at the parade. They were seen seated next to Kim in images provided by the official Korean Central News Agency.
The highlight of the parade was North Korea’s advanced weapons, including the new Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile. State media touts it as the country’s “most powerful nuclear strategic weapon system” with an unlimited strike range.
Though the Hwasong-20 has yet to undergo flight testing, experts like Leif-Eric Easley from Ewha University in Seoul believe the regime aims to acquire the ability to threaten cities globally.
