Bombay High Court Blocks Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra from Traveling Abroad Amid Fraud Investigation

In a notable turn of events, the Bombay High Court has raised concerns regarding Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, in connection with a Rs 60 crore fraud case. The couple sought court approval to travel to Colombo and other locations for what they described as a business trip.

The court, presided over by Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad, expressed doubts over the legitimacy of their travel plans. They requested detailed information about the trip’s purpose, including any formal communications that could substantiate their claim of a business-related journey. The legal team representing the couple has until October 14 to provide this information.

While discussing the trip, Chief Justice Chandrashekhar made a light-hearted yet pointed remark, suggesting that the couple might need to deposit Rs 60 crores if they want to travel internationally. This comment highlights the court’s serious stance on the allegations against them.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police is currently investigating claims that the couple misappropriated investment funds for personal expenses. Due to the ongoing inquiry, the court has not taken immediate action regarding the Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against them. The matter will be reviewed again on October 14.

These legal issues add to the scrutiny the couple is facing related to their financial matters. The upcoming court decisions will be significant in shaping the further course of the investigation.

In a related case, businessman Deepak Kothari has accused Shetty and Kundra of misusing Rs 60 crores of his investment. The EOW has found evidence supporting these allegations and has filed charges against them and an unnamed associate under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including dishonest misappropriation and criminal breach of trust.
