U.S. Airstrike Targets Drug Trafficking Boat in Caribbean
The Dominican Republic recently revealed that a boat hit by a U.S. airstrike was reportedly carrying about 1,000 kilograms of suspected cocaine. This amount is over 2,200 pounds, which amounts to more than one ton of the drug.
Following the strike, Dominican authorities, along with their National Drug Control Directorate and navy, confiscated multiple packages of the drug. These packages were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences for testing to determine their specific type and weight.
According to a statement from the Dominican Republic, their National Drug Control Directorate, in close partnership with the U.S. Southern Command and the Joint Interagency Task Force South, detected a speedboat reportedly loaded with drugs. The boat was heading towards Dominican shores and was believed to be using the country as a transfer point to the United States.
This operation marked the first collaboration between the Dominican Republic and the United States targeting narco-terrorism in the Caribbean region.
In recent weeks, President Trump has ordered several strikes on boats linked to drug trafficking as part of a broader effort to combat the influx of drugs into the U.S. In a message on Truth Social, he warned, “If you are transporting drugs that can kill Americans, we are hunting you!”
This joint operation is a significant step in fighting drug trafficking in the region, highlighting ongoing coordination between nations to address the issue effectively.
